1st time I’m viewing one of your videos. It’s so refreshing to watch someone who cares about the quality of their work. As you stated “bag making is not a race”. When tackling a project I take my time , enjoy the process and endeavour to deliver a quality product. So appreciate your pace, attention to detail and your valuable tips. Thank you.
Chris!!!! Thank goodness I watched this video. I am in the middle of making the Lola, and decided to watch your video. That bag looks so innocuous sitting there all cute and painless. OMG.... it is freaking involved!!! Thank you so much for keeping me from doing myself or someone else great harm! Because of your video, I just might finish this bag and still have some sanity left. (I'm starting with a deficit of that as it is!) You're my hero!
Thank you so much for watching Sharen! I am glad it helped. Make sure you post a photo of your finished bag on the Simply Classic Inspiration Facebook group, we would all love to be inspired by it!
Thank you Chris! I love the way you did your pockets. I also put a trim peace on my slip pocket with the rivets! I love it! Very professional look. I’m almost done with my first Lola. Thanks for you awesome video and wonderful tips and and ideas for this purse.❤
Thank you Chris for all of your tutorials. Wanted to suggest you try contact cement to hold down those side seams. A thin coat on both surfaces and pressing down with a roller works great. I use it wherever I want to adhere decovil to leather or leather to leather.
Thank you for your videos! I so appreciate your care and attention to producing a quality product. I have seen so many that quality control is just not up to standard.
Thank you for your videos!! Love your take on all your bags. Soo, I got to the point of putting top zipper on and bammmmm, I noticed I sewed everything on the linings upside down...lol. If it were right side up, it would be perfect.....lol. I can't stop shaking my head at myself. Thought you could use a laugh...Thanks again!! :)
I like that the top clicks to secure it over the blade! Thanks for the tip on making dot on the corners. I think this will help me. I don’t get good corners consistently! Seriously…what would we do without the leather tape! 🤔
Your teaching style is so clear and concise. Putting the dot on the end of the strap is such a great idea. Something so simple, but yet, I never thought to do that. Lola is next up on my list. For the strap end cutter, what size do you recommend.? There are multiple sizes. Love your work
Thank you for watching Nancy! I made a 1" strap so I used a 1" punch. You will need to match the punch to the strap width. So if you want to make a 1 1/2" strap, you will need a 1 1/2" punch. If you are going to purchase a punch, I suggest the 1" size as most straps are that width for bags and satchels. Post your finished bag on the Facebook group when you are done, I would love to see it!
Hi Chris, I want to use strap connectors instead of sewing the straps on. How far down should I place the top of the connector and should I just do them straight instead of at an angle? Thanks in advance. I love your videos and I am always amazed at how how talented you are.
Hi Diane, thank you for watching! Yes, make them straight. As far as how far down, I place the connectors at the bottom of the handle marks that are on the pattern.
I appreciate this so much!! I don’t know why I struggle so much putting in the top zipper when following the directions! Your video really helped!! I also struggled so much top stitching! You say no top stitching?
There are machines that allow you to sew one stitch at a time without hand cranking. Which allows one to stitch exactly on top of another stitch. I do it regularly.
Could you sew the handles the the exterior after you attach the zipper? Recognizing that you'd have to be careful only to attach them to the exterior part, but keeping them out of the way seemed really hard for you to do. Is that possible?
I actually think that is a really great idea. When I read the question I wasn't sure, but after thinking about it for a bit, I think that could work and possibly be easier. It is certainly worth a try!
Awesome video I’ve never liked making this bag but it’s requested by my customers . One reason is the sewing of the main and lining at the top I like how you don’t necessarily sew to the top. But does this work because you use zipper tabs on both ends? I only use one tab and do the other end with the zipper into the seam so would that make a difference if I don’t sew all the way up? Thanks again
That is a good question. I don’t think that using tabs makes a difference. The unsewn sections are so small, I don’t think you will see them or that they will come apart without the tabs.
Hi Diane, thanks for watching! I cut it 1.25” x 10 and once sewn together, I trim the long edge to make it nice and even. When installing it, place it at the length you want and then cut off the excess. Good luck and post your finished bag in the Facebook Inspiration Group!
Hi Margie, the way the bag is curved at the top, it really doesn't need it. The lining stays in place and I think it gives is a very clean look. You certainly can topstitch it it you would like. I know that topstitching gives folks some problems from time-to-time, and most bags do need it to keep the bag together or the lining in place, but for the Lola, I don't feel it is necessary.

I would like to see the Meldona, it might be an easy hack I can do a video on. I couldn't find it online. Do you have a photo you can send me? chris@simplyclassic.net
I use ykk zippers from sail rite, never had a problem before and my clips were small 1/8 of an inch or so...I wiped the bag apart all ready.. but I do have a question why don't you topstitch it s like it's unfinished or something.. can you too stitch? If you want...
I purchased mine from a presale a very long time ago. We have some different patterns on our website and will be posting more soon. We recently received a shipment.
Obrigado por assistir TiAna! Na verdade, também não vendo. O molde é da American Stitcher's e ela vende no Etsy. Eu filmei este tutorial para ajudar outras pessoas que querem fazer a bolsa.
I didn't see anyone mention hand-sewing the bottom of the pocket to avoid the bulkiness, not that I would be likely to take the time to do that on most purses. LOL

Lol! I almost forgot 😀

Correct, I do not topstitch this bag 😀
That's top stitch on the question I asked

Getting ready to sew my first Lola and I love your tutorial. Can you tell me please what size you cut your vinyl for the key fob?
Hi Diane, thanks for watching! I cut it 1.25” x 10 and once sewn together, I trim the long edge to make it nice and even. When installing it, place it at the length you want and then cut off the excess. Good luck and post your finished bag in the Facebook Inspiration Group!
@@simplyclassic Thank you!
Hi. Nice tutorial. What is the brand of your white fabric pen?
It is a Tandy marking pen. You can also get them at Weaver Leather, Springfield Leather, etc. Thank you for watching!!
Instead of snipping the dome would pinking shears work?
Yes, that is a great solution if you have a good pair.
Hi Chris can you tell me why, you don't to stitch the bag where the zipper is?
Hi Margie, the way the bag is curved at the top, it really doesn't need it. The lining stays in place and I think it gives is a very clean look. You certainly can topstitch it it you would like. @@simplyclassic merci beaucoup mais apparemment je ne peux l'acheter qu'aux USA et pas d'envoi vers la France 😢😢.
I would like it if it had a round bottom and sides came in at a triangle and had same top and ring handles like the Meldona by Patricia Nash.
I would like to see the Meldona, it might be an easy hack I can do a video on. I couldn't find it online. Do you have a photo you can send me? chris@simplyclassic.net
Hi Chris, I did clip also through the zipper and my zipper shredded I don't know what happened but it shredded, what Mess
OMG Margie! I wonder why that happened? Why kind of zipper did you use? How deep are the snips? Can you send me a a photo to chris@simplyclassic.net?

Where do u get fun print vinyl. I cant find any . I want to make these for xmas present for my coworker
I purchased mine from a presale a very long time ago. We have some different patterns on our website and will be posting more soon. We recently received a shipment.
Great tutorial!! Do you print your patterns on cardstock?
Great question! I print on paper them glue to poster board. You will see this in another video, I think the Tips & Tricks video.
@@simplyclassic thank you!
Olá já consegui comprar o projecto. Grata.
your bag looks much larger than the pattern. Did you print at a percent larger then 100? if so, what persent?
For these two, I did not enlarge the pattern. I have enlarged it in the past though by 20%. It makes a goos size.
Boa noite eu gostava de daxer essa bolsa você vende os moldes ou o projecto. Grata.

May i ask what the black trim on the lining pocket is? It has raw edges so is it vinyl? Thank you!
Ignore this question.. i found the answer. Thanks!
Forgot to ask…. What needle size and stitch length did you use please?
Size 18 needle and a stitch length of 6. My lengths go from 1 to 10 on the Consew.
@@simplyclassic thank you
What brand of machine are you using?
I use a Consew 206RB5 machine. I have had it for about 20 years!
Can I ask what size is your English Punch?
Yes, of course! It is a 1". I also have a 1.5" that I use sometimes on 1" straps if I want a "less curvy" edge. Thanks for watching!
Ma'am can you tell me normally length and width
Yes, the Lola is a Swoon pattern, it is 13" wide x 8" tall x 6" deep. Thank you for watching!
I didn't see anyone mention hand-sewing the bottom of the pocket to avoid the bulkiness, not that I would be likely to take the time to do that on most purses. LOL
Yes, that will help avoid it being bulky. I usually see it with the machine…..😀
Put your handle in the pocket
